Without slow RV’s and road construction, the drive usually take 2.5 Hours. However, plan for 3 hours total drive time to Soldotna from the Anchorage Airport.

We get it all the time, Kenai is pronounced “KEE-ny.” How did the Kenai River get it’s name? The name Kenai River comes from the word “Kenaitze” or “Kenaitze Indian tribe who inhabited the area. They called the Kenai Peninsula the “good land.”
The Kenai River is a large swift flowing glacier fed river. You will be much more successful with a fishing, however there are plenty of places to fish the Kenai River from the bank. First, you must have waders and it helps to get trained up by a guide on the technique.
